Creating a place of calm during pregnancy and labour will assist your labour by reducing fear and adrenaline. Adrenaline blocks the Oxytocin hormone that is needed for labour to continue effectively.
Lavender is a safe and effective essential oil that can be used. Sprinkle some on your pillow at night, add a few drops to your bath, add some to massage oil and ask your partner to calm you with a massage.
A familiar, calming scent such as Lavender will help to make the birthing suite less clinical. Many birthing suites have oils and burners in the room, so just ask. An environment you feel comfortable in will also help the oxytocin release and therefore, aid your labour to progress.
