Raspberry leaf tea is beneficial to pregnant and labouring women. I have commenced taking the tablets twice daily and purchased them from my local health food store. Tea bags are also an option although you have to drink up to 5 cups per day. The benefits of consuming raspberry leaf during and after pregnancy is that it helps minimise bleeding of gums and uterus. It contains B1, B3 and E vitamins, valuable in pregnancy. Assists birth of both baby and placenta and relaxes the smooth muscle of the uterus when contractions are occurring.
Research into its benefits have been conducted by Midwives at both RHW and Westmead hospitals and showed that taking raspberry leaf in pregnancy shortens second stage of labour and reduces the need for forceps and ventouse deliveries.
